On July 1, 2023, as a Miami Heat NBA fan, I received a text message that Damian Lillard could be signing with the Miami Heat. I immediately got on Twitter, my very favorite App for breaking news.

Within minutes, my account received the error message: “Rate limit exceeded”.

I immediately checked Downdetector and found that many other users like me were experiencing this same issue.

Downdetector

Both Twitter and TwitterSupport accounts on Twitter were not helpful in providing any info on the outage. Then I stumbled on a tweet from Elon Musk.

I will now say that Elon Musk’s post about “data scraping & system manipulations” is an outright lie. It is almost impossible to use Twitter for 600 posts/day during any major global, national or local news or sporting event without hitting these limits.

So okay Elon, if you want your subscription, I like Twitter so much I will give you your monthly subscription. So as I went on to subscribe, I saw multiple prices. On my phone it was $11.00/month for Blue but on my desktop it was $8.00/month or $84/year. It seemed like after this occurred, the Twitter developers will still changing the pricing.

However, if you have or need a Twitter Business Account, the price just increased to $1,000/month. Wow Elon, that will be huge costs for Organizations.

So I went ahead and signed up entering my credit card info. But an hour or later, I am still getting the Rate limit exceeded error message and I am unable to view my Tweet history which makes me think there is another issue with Twitter. My account does not yet show a Verified Status. But I do now see the message that my account is being verified.

Stay Tuned.
